Colleagues from Walsall Together have been assisting with the Green Social Prescribing work taking place across the borough, which has given them the opportunity to visit some great green spaces, one of those being Caldmore Community Garden.

There were some deep and honest conversations about the involvement of green social prescribing within the local community and how we can use our local green spaces to positively impact Walsall. It was clear how much collaborative working is important to organisations and were excited to support them to work closer together and create valuable links.

Helen Billings, Head of Partnerships and Development for Walsall Together, said: "It was great for us to see the garden that connects the community so well in Caldmore and does some amazing work with the younger people in the local area. It holds multiple events and projects, to allow for as many people as possible to get involved, including a Men’s Shed, Women’s Tuesday, Caldmore Tots and Garden Saturdays.

It’s important as a partnership that we continue to support organisations such as Caldmore Community Garden with the fantastic community work they do. For example, helping to educate the younger people of the community about gardening through informative boards throughout the garden, which gives information about local bird species and wildlife through a bug hotel that encourages valuable insects into the garden."

Anna Webster, Project Manager, said: “Caldmore Community Garden aims to bring our diverse communities together and engage them though creativity, gardening, environmental education, events, and volunteering opportunities. We love meeting new people, hearing their stories, helping them make positive memories and connect with others in the local community. We are a space where everyone is welcome.”

The community garden will be a vital in allowing Walsall to meet the goals set out in the We Are Walsall 2040 Plan, including Empowering Communities and being Clean and Green.
